Transportive and evocative, Kamancello unite the Kurdish kamanche with the classical cello transcending genres, tradition, and cultural boundaries.
Kamancello is comprised of Shahriyar Jamshidi (kamanche) and Raphael Weinroth-Browne (cello). The East-meets-West duo have made waves with performances at Montreal’s Place des Arts for Festival du Monde Arabe, the Tirgan Festival at Harbourfrount Centre, the Aga Khan Museum’s concert series, and the Cello Biennale Amsterdam.
Recorded in one take, their self-titled debut album, which includes 6 improvised pieces, has been met with unanimous critical acclaim.
This performance, Kamancello’s first in Guelph, will be an official CD release concert for their forthcoming second album “Kamancello II: Voyage.”
